What is it?
Wildebeest Publishing's First-Time Author Fund is an allocation set aside for literacy projects and other charitable campaigns. The Award was created to give young writers the opportunity to publish their work under our Herd Trek service. The service includes light editing, design, marketing and author establishment assistance, and listing your book for sale on Amazon.
Why did we establish the fund?
We believe that everyone has a story to tell and those stories should have a chance to be heard regardless of one’s socioeconomic circumstances. We treasure young voices that are passionate about writing and publishing and strive to help eliminate the economic barriers to achieving their goals.
Who is eligible for the award?
The First-Time Author Award is intended to give a young writer (under the age of 22) who would otherwise not have access to the resources needed to publish their work the opportunity to publish a book at no cost.Therefore, eligible aspiring authors must demonstrate a hardship or challenge of some kind, lack access to other funds that could afford them publishing, and possess the desire to have a writing career of some type.
How do aspiring authors apply for the award?
Submissions for consideration can be made through the contact page by submitting a message including information about yourself (or your child, if a legal guardian is submitting), the book, and what you'd hope to accomplish with your work.
How are recipients chosen?
Awards are granted as funds become available. Authors are chosen based on a combination of factors including the quality of their work, the marketability of the concept, and outstanding personal references.
Where do the funds come from?
This is a private fund, collected from the dues of our members and sponsors of our long-time High Impact Reading Challenge Book Club. As donors, we hope to support and encourage the next generation of writers and to help foster a love of reading and learning in our communities.
